Top Tips For Brides Getting Ready On Your Wedding Day

Is your wedding day hurtling ever closer at a rapid rate of knots?

Are you are full of excitement and anticipation for the big day, but last minute panic or worries about things you’ve forgotten are surfacing? There seems to be so much to think about, whether you are highly organised or a fly by the seat of your pants kind of a girl.

I’ve been in your shoes (quite a few years ago) so thought I’d share some tips from an old hand

I’ve only done it once so I’ve approached some of my “industry” friends who are all highly experienced and dedicated experts in their fields who work with tens of brides every year, and have done for years, to help out too.

I’ve a huge amount of respect for these ladies, they know their stuff so take a couple of minutes to read what they have to say and save yourself the regret of not having thought about these tips before hand, you’ve enough to think about so let them help your morning run as smoothly as possible, it’s too special not to.

I asked everyone for two tips, one professional one based on their experiences and knowledge and one that is a more personal observation. Not a lot else to say really by way of introduction so I’ll dive right in (in no particular order!).

Professional tip

“Hide all plastic carrier bags in the room because they are just an eyesore. Ideally have only the items that you are going to wear/use that day. Try and have prep room quite tidy. “

Personal tip

“Try not to have too many people in the room with you an hour before your ceremony so you can think straight without too much noise and people asking you questions.”

Victoria Farr Make Up Artist

Victoria is absolutely passionate about showcasing the brides natural beauty, the gorgeous healthy radiant glow and celebrating the authentic woman rather than disguising her with the latest makeup fad. Her work is beautiful and timeless.

Professional tip

“Get some tunes on! Nothing worse than a quiet room whilst getting ready. Fave songs at the ready!”

Personal tip

“The last hour whizzes by so quickly, so make sure you spend a few mins with your nearest and dearest people, even if it’s just for a little toast and a hug.”

Wedding Planner Helen Davies of With Helen Davies

Helen is all about fastidious attention to detail, delivered with vast knowledge and spades of enthusiasm. She will ensure that every aspect of your big day is covered and runs seamlessly and that all her clients have unforgettable experiences.

Professional tip

“Prepare a hair and beauty timeline. Double check how your hair and skin should be prepped before your Hair Stylist and Make Up Artist arrive. Ensure you are ready and brief your Bridal party so there is no confusion about who goes first.”

Personal tip

“Relax and enjoy yourself!  Pack a set of portable speakers and prepare a playlist of your favourite tunes, surround yourself with your favourite scent (use a room diffuser or scented candle) and don't forget to eat and drink.”

Me

I’m not going to blow my own trumpet, that would be a bit embarrassing to write and for you to read, suffice to say, I‘ve lots of experience and knowledge.

Professional tip

Don’t let your hairdresser spray hair spray on your jewellery of accessories.  If possible put them on afterwards, if not ensure they are shielded from the spray as much as possible, the same applies to perfume.   Hair spray and perfume tarnish and dull accessories, they’ll instantly lose their sparkly if crystal or glow if pearls.

Personal tip

Take at least five minutes to shut the door on the world and gather yourself together.  Once you set off for your ceremony that’s it, you ‘re on a roller coaster for the rest of the day and you need that calm so that you can take as much of it in as possible as parts will fly by in a blur.

You probably noticed a common theme in all the personal tips and that’s keeping things calm and relaxed, I can’t stress this enough. I see brides in wedding groups chatting about decorating their venues on the morning of the wedding to keep costs down (which I completely understand in theory) but this is honestly a one way ticket to stress and upset. I’m not saying don’t DIY, but do delegate, use friends and family who are willing to help you (though they will want time to get ready too) if you don’t want to use the professionals.

It is far more important that you enjoy marrying your beloved with a clear head and happy heart than titivating chair covers which may look great in an empty room but are barely noticed once the day has started and your guests have draped jackets and pashminas over them.

Until next time!
